Winter is Hereeeeee!!!
First of all...
I would like to wish a Happy Valentine's day to my wife Jarlene and kids and also to my family over there in Chile!! xoxoxo
---------------------------
This was the first time we were actually enjoying the winter we were having a not so bad winter even with some shiny days in between... but that is over!
The real winter have started here in NY, we have around 10 inches (~25 cm) of snow and it is freezing! There is a snow storm in the area and it is staying for at least a couple of days more. They have announced at least another 10 inches for tonight... So, I guess we will have to get ready for plowing the snow which is very unpleasant and tiresome! Anyway, hopefully we will get to go snow tubing this weekend and have some fun there all together.
School this quarter has taken a great amount of my time, I am very tired right now but I have just a week left of classes so that should be over soon.
This quarter I have been FORCED to speak in public so many times!! many presentations and the like... I thought I would post a small slideshow that I created for one of my classes... The pictures were taken by us in the south of Chile.

Bye bye fall quarter...
Yep, one more quarter is gone and with it almost all of my brain energy haha. I studied very very hard during the last couple of months and it seems as if I have gotten my reward... I got my final grades(Finally! I checked like twice a day for almost a week (the grades are posted on RIT's infocenter web))...
I got 4.0 !!! I am so happy and satisfied! I feel that this has been the quarter where I have learned the most... and thanks to God I am officially over with any math/calc/physics courses! now, I only have to enjoy the geeky courses I have left and of course get a CO-OP ASAP!
On another note, I have been working on a new project here... Build my own PVR/DVR (kind of a tivo) so I have used ubuntu and mythtv and it is working like a charm, I can watch TV from any computer in the house, schedule recordings , check the weather (yeah, here it is very important to know how cold it will be!), and watch those recordings on the Xbox (softmoded xbox with xbox media center) etc. Eventually, when I get some money I will buy some small factor computers and use them as frontends and connect them to the tv and to the backend which is hosted in the basement between the 1000 of computers we have down there hahaha, I will probably post some pictures of this later this week once I get everything working perfect. Next project : Mame arcade, a life size arcade machine in which I plan to put all of the greatest and oldest games. I am looking forward to this project, I used to enjoy so much playing on those machines when I was like ~12, I remember my partner in crime (tekulin) and I spending every last penny on those arcade games! haha
So, now I will be "resting" for two weeks and then I will get back to the routine of the poor student... haha
PS: The da vinci code is soooooooo good a must see! rent it out ! it is on blockbuster!

Movies
OMG! Yesterday we watched Nacho Libre and It was so funny!!!!!! I laugh through the whole movie! hhahaha You can see the strong influence of "Napoleon Dynamite" in this movie but It end up being funny anyways!
I think that watching 'Nacho Libre' spoken in english makes it even more funny because one can recognize our characteristic spanglish accent that makes me laugh wherever I hear it... and that also makes me think 'Oh My God, I talk like that too!' hahhaha
I can't left out a movie that we watched a couple of weeks ago, 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' , it was veeeeeeeeeeeery good. It is kind of Thriller/Comedy movie that has you thinking until the very end, I really recomend it!
Also, 'The Matador' is very good, I enjoyed it very much...
'For REALSSS!' / 'NaaaachooOOOoooOOOoooOOooo' ahhahaha
that's it for now,
Clau.

I am back from the dead!
Yeah, I know I have not been around lately... Well, School has been been harder than before (I guess it is supposed to be...) So, I spend most of my afternoon (and many late nights) working on homework and studying for my tests... And even sometimes... preparing for the next class!! (yes, here you usually have to prepare the next class material in advance, something unthinkable for the common USACH student!)
I have been doing pretty good in school. This quarter I took: Physics III (lots of calculus... I SUFFER!), Microeconomics, University Chemistry, and Computer Science for Transfer Students... YES!!! Finally I got a Computer related Class! and I am enjoying it... I have finally learned JAVA! (I did get past the page 40 of the book!)...
I am still deciding if I go through with my master degree right after my bachelor.. After a little math, I have about one year left of courses plus a year of COOP (You have to go to work somewhere.. get paid and get experience) which is required to get my degree...
I usually find stuff here from Chile like fruits or wine but today Jarlene found a newspaper article which I include here...

Like is usual, we never make press for having won the Hockey World Cup, or the Tennis World Cup, etc... I always find articles about conflicts in Chile... Since I left , I can see nothing has changed... We still have the unresponsive government or perhaps the overdemanding citizens...
That's all for now, I will try take the time to post more often...
Take care,
Clau

Wifi
After following up on a link I found on www.digg.com, I found this website made by a guy in New Zeland who is like the master of the "Poor Man's WiFi" (A.K.A. Howto steal other guys' wifi without a US200 antenna haha)
After reading a while it seems as if this design works the best for the less money.
I have not tried yet but it looks like it should work pretty well...
Interested? go to http://www.usbwifi.orcon.net.nz/ to check out all the different designs
(This remember me of many friends and family who could use this to get in better shape "their" *cough* wifi connections )
I really liked this design made with a Chinese parabolic Cookware (Math geeks out there brush up those parabolic equations !)

Finally I am out of school... for a while.
I passed all of my classes and got my deserved summer vacations...
Yay...
I have not posted very often because of school and stuff, anyways I have not done much during school time...
I am thinking about changing my program at RIT to Bachelor/Master in Computer Science.
I am required to have minimum GPA of 3.5 or so and I could get my Master degree faster by taking graduate level courses right now... It would be cool.
I have been teaching myself carpentry, and *trying* to build a big desk with folder and shelves, I have not painted yet but it looks decent...
That is for now,
Clau.

Friends
We were cleaning the house and we found this picture. It was at my high school graduation ceremony 6 years ago. We were (and I hope we still are) best friends. Now, everyone of us had taken different paths on life and we do not see nor talk to each other as much as we used to, but I am sure that someday our paths will cross again and we will enjoy a nice bbq and chat.
Hugs for them out there whereever they are!
From left to right (Top row):
Claudio V. aka devmod now studying Computer Science at RIT, New York, USA.
Cristian F. aka king of heart, Ctn now living somewhere in the north of Chile. Studying engineer (I believe so).
Carlos V. aka darkmake, konkekumake now living in Santiago, Chile, studying Network and Conectivity and Working.
(Bottom row):
Mario V. aka mcrow, albo100, etc. now living in Antofagasta, Chile. Now, working at an airport as Security and Rescue in the remote posibility that an airplane falls aka HERO.
